My daughter got a new cookbook for Christmas and we’re finally getting a chance to make some recipes.  I probably won’t do this often because it’s a little more costly than our usual fare…but we were all ready for a little change.

Breakfast:

• Cereal x2
• Bagels
• Corned Beef Hash & Eggs
• Waffles

Lunch:

• Spaghetti w/ garlic bread
• PB & J w/ fruit x2
• Grilled Cheese & Tomato Soup
• Chicken Noodle Soup w/ crackers

Supper: Anyone Can Cook: Step-by-Step Recipes Just for You (Better Homes & Gardens Cooking)

• Shrimp Scampi w/ Angel Hair Pasta & Garlic Bread
• Roasted Chicken w/ Rosemary & Garlic Herb Potatoes
• Italian Style Pork Chops /w fettuccine
• Braised Beef w/ Red Wine Sauce & Polenta
• Pizza Night (not from cookbook)

What’s on your menu??

This will never be me! If my husband sees me with any tools in my hand his first words are, “Whoa there! What do you think you’re doing?”  It’s true…I’m not very handy and walls and objects usually aren’t safe if I have a tool!

Hence my lack of enthusiasm when Ben asked me to stop by the hardware store today.  I mean, really, where else can you you find pretty scented candles sitting on a shelf next to ant killer?? When I walk through the doors, I look for the first available staff member…and they walk me through the store to find what I need!

I’m so grateful to the wonderful staff at Cole’s…they’ve always been friendly and extremely helpful. Especially when they have to deal with my way of describing what I need! “I need some foamy stuff that you use as a filter for a ceiling fan. You know, it sort of looks like the stuff you put over speakers?”

I’ll stick to CVS and Target…and other Type A stores Somebody please tell me I’m not alone in this dilemma!

Is it in your heart to help the people of Haiti? I would love nothing more than to donate money to the relief efforts…but, for our family, that just isn’t reality. I’ve been thinking and asking about different ways I can help with what I have.  Everytime I talk to someone or make a phone call, I hear the same thing, “Send money.”

Finally, here is a way to help with what I already have! For those that take advantage of the great deals at stores like CVS, Target, Wal-Mart and Rite-Aide (and other like stores),  you have a stockpile of toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, shampoo and deodorant.  What better way to use up your excess than to donate to those in need?

Convoy of Hope is collecting Hygiene Kits filled with shampoo, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, hand towels & combs. I know I’m going to be pulling together a few bags and working with some friends to see how many we can fill. If you don’t have a stockpile, but still want to help, a $5 donation can be given to help toward the cost of buying these items in bulk.

That takes me to Saturday after breakfast. I’ll need to make a quick trip to the store of meat , dairy, fruit and veggies… then I’m ready to finish cleaning out the pantry!

• 2 lbs ground beef
• 3 lb beef roast
• frozen veggies
• applesauce
• rice
• whole wheat tortillas
• dry red beans
• canned tomatoes
• canned veggies
• potatoes
• frozen hash browns
• eggs
• shredded cheese
• baking goods to make some yummy treats
• lots of odds and ends too!

Hopefully by the end of the day, I’ll have some kind of menu worked up! I think this is going to be fun…want to join me?
