My Creation : The Practically Perfect Princess Pack

I don’t know what the weather is like where you are…but here it is a BEAUTIFUL Earth Day! Spring is definately in the air and as I marvel at all God has created this day (and every day!) I wanted to share some great ways to take care of the planet we all call home.
1. Recycle – that’s the obvious one! Some ways we recycle : Give away clothes we have outgrown, Pass along Magazine that we have read, Use empty cans and other containers for craft projects, buy eco-friendly refills for hand-soap (smaller packaging)…what are some ways you recycle?
- Good Rule to Remember: REUSE before you RECYCLE ; don’t just automatically take everything to the recycle bins…figure out what else you can do with recyclables first!
2. Reuseable Shopping Bags – I’ve taken to using these in the last several months and LOVE them! Not only do they help the environment; they also hold more and are more durable than plastic.
- Interesting Fact : Worldwide, an estimated 4 billion plastic bags end up as litter each year. Tied end to end that’s enough to circle the earth 63 times.
3. Buy live Christmas Trees – something we started 2 years ago. We bought a little baby everygreen tree with the root ball still intact, decorated it, kept the roots wet and set it outside the week after Christmas. In another week or so , my husband will plant it in the backyard! The kids love this idea and it is helping us make a hedgerow of sorts along the back of our property.
4. Grow your own food – it’s Spring and Spring means gardens! If it grows in the ground or on a tree and you eat it…grow it yourself! When it’s time to harvest, get the family involved in “putting up” your fruits and veggies for the winter! How is this Earth Friendly? Most likely, you won’t use pesticides and you won’t have cans because you will be using glass jars for almost everything! Have you thought about what to plant this year?
How about some other websites celebrating today:
Tiny Prints – lots of “green” ideas for the day
Deal Seeking Mom – freebies & a giveaway
Coupon Cravings – HUGE giveaway
If I come across any more, I’ll add them to the list! Have a Happy Earth Day!

About a week ago, I mentioned that I received my sample of Skoy Cloths in them mail. I have to say…I absolutely LOVE my new sponge/cloth. I have used it very heavily since I got it and it still looks new. My favorite thing about these wonderful cloths is that they don’t harbor bacteria, so they do get stinky after a day or two. In fact, my Skoy still smells fresh and I’ve only microwaved it once…and that was just to see what happened when I did! After I use the cloth, I hang it over my faucet to dry.
I’m excited to announce that the Skoy company has offered to give Sample Packs Full Size (4 per pack) away to 3 of my readers! Here are the giveaway details…you have 4 chances to win:
- Visit Skoy and let them know where you heard about their product
- Leave a comment
- Subscribe to this site
- Blog about this giveaway
Make sure you leave a comment for each item you complete! The giveaway will close at 8pm eastern on February 14th. Winners will be randomly chosen and contacted via email. I will post the winners on February 15th. Good Luck! Don’t forget to visit the Bloggy Giveaway Carnival for more great giveaways!
Thank you all for your comments, for linking to this site and for subscribing! Now…for the winner….
Congratuations Elissa! I’ve sent you an email confirmation…please post back here after you try these with your review!
****Original Post – January 9th, 2009****
A few weeks ago I found out about Soap Nuts and shared my excitement with you. I finally ordered 2 Sample packs…one to try and one to give away.
Since I mostly use cold water in the wash, I decided to make Soap Nut Soak to use as detergent. I didn’t have any essential oil to add scent, but I tried it anyway. My official opinion? It’s a really cool concept, they work just as well as my homemade laundry detergent and they are environmentally friendly. I’m glad I gave them a try…I still have the “nuts” to try in the hot water wash. After I made the soak, the nuts were still sudsy so I kept them for next time. I made enough soak to do 8 loads of laundry. My clothes came out of the wash smelling…clean. No fragrance, no residue…just plain clean. I used vinegar in the rinse cycle and no fabric sheet in the dryer. I think the clothes smelled like I had hung them out on the line to dry but they were super soft and the towel were even fluffy!
So…want to try? I’m giving away a sample package of 8 soap nuts. It’s the small cloth bag in the picture above. It is enough to do 6-10 loads of laundry. A winner will be randomly chosen next Tuesday, January 13th. You have 3 chances to win:
- Blog about this giveaway and link back here
- Subscribe to this site

I was so excited to go through the mail yesterday! I had been offered a sample pack of Skoy Cloths to try and I jumped at the offer. Of course, I had to try it out right away. I’m totally in love with my new sponge/cloth! Check out their website for more info and check back here in a month for my review and most likely a giveaway!
